About

Kitchen Renovation
in

Kitchen renovations are the most searched home improvement in Melbourne in 2026, and the most commonly mismanaged. Most homeowners assume the hard part is choosing the tiles and the tapware. The hard part is coordinating the cabinetmaker, the plumber, the electrician, and the plasterer in the right sequence, on the right timeline, without one trade holding up the next.

At LiLAC, we specialise in complete kitchen renovations across Melbourne's Inner East and Bayside suburbs, including Hawthorn, Kew, Camberwell, Brighton, and Malvern. Full kitchen renovations, open plan kitchen transformations, kitchen and laundry combinations, and heritage kitchen upgrades, all managed under a single licensed builder from the first site visit to final handover.

Every kitchen renovation we deliver is coordinated across every trade including demolition, electrical, plumbing, plastering, custom joinery, benchtops, tiling, and final fit-off, under one fixed-price contract. No hidden costs. No trade coordination left to you. No variations you did not agree to. Licensed builder Zac Porter (BPC DB-U 100-151) oversees every project personally from start to finish.

Kitchen Renovation
PROCESS
Pre-Construction
Every kitchen renovation at LiLAC begins with a site visit, not a phone quote. From there, scope, layout, and structural requirements are confirmed. Custom joinery is briefed and measured, benchtop material selected, appliances specified, tiling confirmed, and every trade scheduled before demolition begins. Since July 2024, high-silica engineered stone is banned in Australia. At LiLAC we guide every client through the best sintered stone and porcelain slab alternatives available in 2026 so your benchtop is both beautiful and compliant. Everything locked in before a single cabinet comes out.
Construction
Your kitchen renovation takes shape in the right sequence. Full demolition and strip back first, followed by electrical rough-in and plumbing rough-in inspected before any wall closes. Plastering and wall preparation completed before cabinetry installation begins. Custom joinery installed, benchtops templated and fabricated, tiling completed, appliances connected, lighting fitted, and final fit-off coordinated under one licensed builder. A standard kitchen renovation on site runs four to eight weeks depending on scope and whether the layout changes.
Handover
A kitchen renovation is only finished when every drawer, door, and detail is exactly right. We complete a full walkthrough together before the kitchen is handed over. Electrical and plumbing compliance certificates issued. Joinery warranties and all documentation handed to you directly. Your new kitchen is ready.

WHY CHOOSE LILAC for your
Kitchen Renovation
in

We know this process inside out: From open plan kitchen transformations to full kitchen and laundry renovations and heritage kitchen upgrades, kitchen renovations are at the core of what we do at LiLAC. We have worked across Melbourne's most established suburbs and we know exactly what a high-quality kitchen renovation looks like, and what it takes to get there.

Every trade coordinated under one licensed builder: A kitchen renovation is only ever as good as the coordination behind it. Cabinetmakers, plumbers, electricians, plasterers, and tilers all need to work in the right sequence. Licensed builder Zac Porter (BPC DB-U 100-151) oversees every trade personally, from demolition to final fit-off, so nothing falls through the gaps and no trade holds up the next.

Your investment is protected: Every kitchen renovation at LiLAC is delivered under a fixed-price contract, not an estimate. The number we agree on before demolition begins is the number you pay. No hidden costs. No variations you did not agree to. Complete transparency before a single cabinet comes out of the wall.

Local Melbourne knowledge: We renovate kitchens across Melbourne's Bayside and Inner East suburbs. From Victorian and Edwardian homes in Hawthorn and Kew to mid-century properties in Brighton and Malvern, we understand how these homes were originally built, what the layout constraints are, and what it takes to open up a kitchen properly without compromising the character or structural integrity of the home.

FAQs
How much does a kitchen renovation cost in Melbourne?
Kitchen renovation costs in Melbourne vary significantly depending on the size of the kitchen, whether the layout changes, the quality of joinery and benchtop selected, and the complexity of the electrical and plumbing work involved. Moving the sink or cooking position adds considerable cost before any other work begins. At LiLAC, every kitchen renovation starts with a site visit because no accurate price can be given without seeing the space, the existing layout, and understanding exactly what you want to achieve. We provide a fixed-price contract, not an estimate, so the number you agree to before demolition begins is the number you pay.
How long does a kitchen renovation take in Melbourne?
A kitchen renovation feels like it should be straightforward. It rarely is. Custom joinery has four to eight week fabrication lead times. Benchtops need to be templated after cabinetry is installed and then fabricated before they can be fitted. Appliances need to be on site before electrical rough-in is finalised. End to end, plan for eight to twelve weeks from the day you sign. That breaks into four to eight weeks of pre-construction covering design, selections, joinery fabrication, and trade scheduling, followed by four to eight weeks on site. The pre-construction phase is where most kitchen renovations are won or lost.
Do I need a permit for a kitchen renovation in Melbourne?
Most kitchen renovations in Melbourne do not require a building permit if the layout stays the same and no structural changes are involved. Any work that includes moving plumbing, relocating electrical switchboards, removing walls, or altering the structure of the home will require compliance certificates and in some cases a building permit. At LiLAC, we assess permit requirements as part of the initial site visit and manage the entire compliance process on your behalf so nothing is missed and no inspection delays your build.
What does a complete kitchen renovation include?
A complete kitchen renovation at LiLAC includes full demolition and strip back, electrical rough-in, plumbing rough-in, plastering and wall preparation, custom joinery design and installation, benchtop templating and fabrication, tiling, appliance connection, lighting installation, and final fit-off. All trades are coordinated under one licensed builder (BPC DB-U 100-151) and delivered under a single fixed-price contract. Electrical and plumbing compliance certificates are issued at handover.
Can I keep my existing kitchen layout during a renovation?
Yes, and in most cases it is the smartest decision you can make. Keeping your sink, dishwasher, and cooking position in place eliminates the cost of relocating plumbing and electrical services, which can add thousands to your project before any cabinetry or benchtop work begins. At LiLAC, we assess your existing layout during the site visit and give you an honest view of where keeping the layout saves money and where changing it genuinely improves how the kitchen functions for your family.
Is engineered stone still available for kitchen benchtops in Melbourne?
No. High-silica engineered stone was banned across Australia from July 2024 due to the serious health risks it poses to fabricators and installers. Any builder or kitchen company still offering engineered stone benchtops in Melbourne in 2026 is not compliant. At LiLAC, we guide every client through the best alternatives available, including sintered stone, porcelain slabs, natural stone, and reconstituted stone options that deliver the same premium aesthetic with full compliance and no compromise on quality or longevity.
At Lilac Constructions, we work with homeowners across Melbourne's most established suburbs, the places where people have invested in their community and want a home that reflects that.

Our projects are concentrated in Melbourne's eastern and bayside suburbs, where we know the streets, the councils, and the character of each neighbourhood intimately.

If you're in Brighton, Hampton or Sandringham, looking out over the bay and imagining something better. In Kew, Hawthorn, Camberwell or Canterbury, where character homes sit alongside some of Melbourne's finest streets. In Malvern or Balwyn, where school catchments and lifestyle come together. Or further east in Ivanhoe, Doncaster, Templestowe or Warrandyte, where space meets proximity.

We also work across Richmond, Fitzroy, Brunswick and Northcote, suburbs where design-forward homeowners are reimagining what their homes can be.

We don't try to be everywhere. We choose to be exceptional where we are.
